The pale light of the morning sun entered through the windows, contrasting with the heat that was consuming the poor students inside. Despite being winter, the building had decided to provide its inhabitants with a hellish climate.

"Why on this planet are you so many?" said the teacher as he closed the door and slid to his desk. "This should be illegal! I bet all your body odors are the ones causing this weather of crap. But oh, well. Let me introduce myself."

"My name is Phillip Maxwell, and I'll be your Elementalism Teacher. You'll also have to deal with Rowen, my assistant, but that'll only for the first year victims-- I mean, students."

"Elementalism is the study and control of elements, basically four of them: water, air, earth and fire." With a swift movement of the wrist, he shifted his hand into fire, that first shone orange and then turned blue, before turning into water. The liquid fell to the floor and transformed into mud just before the teacher kicked it, and it evaporated. "If you complete all the courses required to get a degree, you will be able to master at the very least your strong element." He turned to face the board and wrote his name so they didn't forget. He added Master, Great, and Grandiose before it for students to add at will.  "Now, down to real business."

ELM 101 - Introduction to Elementalism

"I hope the name of the class is obvious enough. If not, it's all about finding out your strengths and weakness in elements, and getting to know the theory of how it works." He slid in front of the students with a smirk. "Everybody should take this class, in my opinion. Lots of reading, but even more practice. Anyway, I guarantee you that you'll have mastered the basics of your element, at least, at the end of this course."

He sighed, knowing that he would have to divide his students by previous skill, and gestured with his hand.

"Okay, so you'll be in two groups. The ones that know their shit and the ones that don't. First eh... group? Person, better... You'll have the tedious task, which is to produce a simple form of your element and describe thoroughly how it affects your body to cast it. How tired you get, how much of that you can cast in a lapse of ten minutes... I want it to be accompanied by an extensive investigation on the risks and advantage of your element over others, like how can it damage another creature's body and such." On the board, he wrote the name of the only student that would be doing the activity.

Jumping back to his desk, he sat on top of it and shifted his legs into smoke for comfort. Beside him, a bubble of water, a flame, a rock and a incense stick appeared.

"For you newbies who have no idea on what you'll be controlling, here's what to do. You'll have to sit and try to control each of these. Doing a deep research on the elements that have been used by your ancestors will also help in that."

"And, even though I suppose you're not the most eager ones on reading, you'll ALL have to make me a summary of chapters one to five of The Elements: A Guide to Know and Manipulate them. Yes, both who know magic already and who don't. That's all folks! Run off and good luck."</a="">

ELM 102 - Elementalism in Literature

"This is always my class with the fewer students. Let's at least make it fun." He stretched out his arms in a yawn. "First, you'll find a couple of classmates which show some kind of power, either a beginner, intermediate or advanced student. I don't quite care. Then, you'll go to the library and will find a literature book depicting such power as well. I want a comparison between the two: how the book adheres to reality or how your mate is definitely not completely developed in that area. Whatever you find, I want the details. It's best if you manage to make your partner show their power to you for better analysis. If you're a conceited little bastard, you can compare your own elemental powers instead."

ELM 103 -  Practical Elementalism

"Well, by now you should know that to practice Elementalism, you can either be a natural or need some assistance with the... magic. Here, we'll have a little overview on talismans." Glancing back, he makes a face at the books that still lie beneath his desk. "Erm... I hope you don't mind if we do this a practical way. Though, if you want to read, go ahead and look for The Uses of Elemental Magic. It must be somewhere in the library." Clearing his throat, he morphed a small sphere out of his hand. It shone deep green, and then yellow... before turning light brown. Then he put it on his desk. "This is just a marble. It's not so simple, though. It will amplify the natural powers of yours. Foooor example!" He jumped and landed before the class, all dramatically. "If you're going to cast water magic, you'll need a talisman for water to cast the strongest spells. If you try any other talisman, it will have no effect. Sad, right?" He grasped the marble again, and more similar objects it appeared on his hands. Some shone shades of red and some others, of grey. The last ones he created were shining blue.

"Take one and cast me something, no matter if you already know or chose your strong element or not." He sighed before putting on a bored face. "Aaand if you still know nothing about casting simple elementalism, then I do suggest you to to go back to that book, The Uses of Elemental Magic, and read chapters one and two."

"Just remember. These talismans here are weak. You won't be able to cast anything too strong without risking it to explode on you. So be careful, I'm not into plastic surgery. Other than that, have fun, sweethearts!" He laughed, somehow demented, after the last word.

ELM 104 -  Elementalism and Safety

"Well, this time, I won't be the one looking over the poor souls that took this class", he said lightly, pointing at the door. "To get to your teacher... your student teacher, you should go to the room next to this. Now, out out out!
Follow your damn instincts! And good luck...

Fire by =LeaglemPhillip in pixels by =LeaglemFire by =Leaglem

ELM 201 - Basic Firemancy

"Oh, hello there, Jack." His smile widened. Observing Jack's eager personality was one of his favorite hobbies in the academy.

"B'aww, but I thought you loved water!" he joked, recalling Jack's assignment on it. With a chuckle, he swayed his fingers and a flame burst on their tips. The blaze danced in his hand, the flames turning yellow, green and lastly blue. "I'm sure you're skilled with casting fire and... somehow managing to use it as an attack. But with your lack of... um... skill to control the fire pressure and distance, I bet you'll like to train that first. So, here, boy. You'll have to hit a target at different distances, hey, ONLY hit the very center of it. That way your attacks won't be like trying to burn the whole damn forest. I kind of almost lost my hair last time you decided to show off."

"Just remember, the more pressure in your lungs, the faster the fire will shoot. The least, the rounder the explosion will be. Good luck! And try not to burn anyone... too badly"

Water by =LeaglemPhillip in pixels by =LeaglemWater by =Leaglem

ELM 202 - Basic Watermancy

"Water is all around us! What we'll do today is quite easy. Try and locate something that you think doesn't hold any water in it, like, I don't know, a rock, or the very air! From there, extract at least a glass of potable water and bring it to the Mighty Phil to test it. Easy, huh?" He slid around the room and turned his own body into a mass of water, hovering to rain on them.

"Water has many states", he declared after having returned to his natural form. "And liquid water is not the most common right now. Frozen and gas, though, are easier to find in such a weather-- and with that, I mean the weather outside AND inside the building, of course. So go, go and bring me something to drink! Nyahaha!"

Wind by =LeaglemPhillip in pixels by =LeaglemWind by =Leaglem

ELM 204 - Basic Windmancy

"To understand wind you have to understand how it flows. Other than being able to produce wind which, I assume you all can, I want you to turn it into something else... "Something else?" you ask. "Yes!" I say, as everything that moves is energy.

ELM 301 - Wall Creation

"Ah, fire walls! The most fun of them all, as they're the most unpredictable! Well, Rowen, you tell me! This knowledge will surely end up being extremely useful." He slid around the boy and stretched out his arms. Blue flames burst from the cloak, rising several feet above them.
"Not only a flame needs to be stable, but to be hot enough to keep anything from passing, else it's not a barrier. So, in order to learn how to do this, you'll have to start with a still flame circle."
He backed away and, with a finger in fire, he drew a circle around him.
"You go do that and make sure nothing enters... undamaged. Remember not to leave holes in this barrier as it's pretty weak. You depend on how steady the flames are."

ELM 302 - Targeted Elementalism

"So, you're gonna practice your aim here, huh? Fine! The first thing you both need to understand here is the concept of distance. It works differently for Earth and for Fire, so you guys better get reading. When you feel like you're ready, come to me and we'll practice. Of course, I assume you will practice with a steady target first, because I... will... be a bit more sneaky." He slid around them swiftly, his body turning into smoke for a second before reappearing. "I won't ask you to hit me. Just make sure to be close to, hahaha!"

ELM 303 - Elementalistic Alchemy

"Oooh, making one element behave like another one! Interesting, right? Not too hard for element fire and air for being almost weightless, but much harder for earth and water... Or am I wrong?" He looked at his students and smirked, rubbing his hands. "Okay! Fire and Earth here, huh? The first thing we'll try to do is make both elements behave like water, which is the easiest for both of you to imitate. For that, I want you to experiment on how to make Fire appear heavy and Earth be fluid like water without mixing it with it, of course. Just remember that water is made of several particles —'drops', if you want to call them like that— and you can reflect that movement in your element in the same way. Good luck~!"

Phillip in pixels by =LeaglemLightning by =Leaglem

ELM 304 - Energymancy

"The flow of electrons through elements is the base for this art, as energymancy is more a matter of technique than of science itself. So, Rym dear, the first thing you have to do is find, using earth, a substance to conduct electricity correctly. Use earthmancy for that and test the products with electron streams until you think you've found the most convenient conductor. I want at least one functioning light bulb! After that, the real training will start!"
